- My introduction to what I hope is a successful project

To be honest, I still find it hard to believe I’m actually doing this. I’ve
talked forever about starting a blog, heard the suggestions from countless
people, but I suppose I never really had the motivation to make it happen. And
now we come to the root of my problem, and the cause of my eventual decision to
start this blog. I will give one piece of advice to heed while
reading this and any other posts on this blog: while the subject matter of this
blog is to a degree serious, you must learn to take me with only a degree of
frankness. That is to say, you can’t take me too seriously, which I hope you
have figured out by this point. Humor is the spice of life, and while mine may
be dry at times, just remember we all have different tastes.
I am in aspiring
software engineer, which I have come to find is one of the most difficult
professions out there. The vast amount of knowledge required is insane. When I
was growing up, people told me that in the field of computers, you have a
hardware specialist, software specialist, network specialist, etc. As I have
found later in my life, these people knew nothing of computers. Being a
software engineer you have to know all aspects of a computer, from the hardware
to software, including how to write AND manipulate software to have it do what
you want it to do.
In my eyes, knowledge in itself should
be a free and infinite resource. One thing I have found is that many
programmers are happy to share their knowledge with others to further their
understanding and help grow the industry. The more minds you have
collaboratively working on something, the greater ideas that can be
accomplished. This ideal should become infectious, spreading to any and all.
Knowledge is not money. It is more plentiful and so much more valuable. It can
prevent wars, and save lives. It can make or break people and societies. It is
the most powerful tool we as humans possess to further our survival. Therefore, it should be spread to all who
will hear it, and treated like a precious commodity as plentiful as sand on the
beach. This way, we all get more of what we really want.
Lastly, I want you to know the
actual tools I am using, to encourage a sharing atmosphere between us. The compiler I am using at this point is
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, as that is the best compiler I have found for the
C family of languages (I am learning C++ specifically to start with). I know my
compiler is pretty ancient in terms of technology, but we do what we can with
what we got. Truthfully, I got the program as a deal being in community college
(while I was able to attend) and have just been too cheap (rather
poor) to buy a newer copy. Plus, this one works just fine anyway, so why fix
what isn’t broken, right?
Also, there are various online
resources that will be brought up time and time again. As you should already
know (just from perusing on the internet) there is a Wiki for quite literally
every-damn-thing. I mean, I just finished Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower”
series, and wouldn’t ya know it? There’s a Wiki for that too. (Tangent: that was the most amazing story I have ever read in my
life. Not horror, but incredible storytelling. Check it out sometime.)
Now that you have an in depth background of myself, maybe we can form a connection
from the beginning. And perhaps together, we can make a true difference in this
world.
